This weekend saw another victorious performance from our Formula One partners the Lotus F1 Team, as Kimi Räikkönen claimed his third podium spot of 2013 at P2, and Romain Grosjean celebrated his first official triumph of the season at P3. With Sebastian Vettel at P1 again, the result comes as something of a Déjà-vu for F1 fans, as last year’s Bahrain Grand Prix saw the same three claim the top winning positions.
Bahrain got off to a tough start for Romain after debris blocked his vehicle’s car’s radiator causing the car to overheat, but a strong comeback strategy and some sterling work from the team’s engineers sent Romain speeding to a well-deserved victory. Speaking of the result for the team’s website Romain admitted that the leap from P11 on Saturday to P3 on Sunday had been tricky but satisfying: “I think we’ve put in a lot of work and effort to understand what was exactly going on - and it wasn’t easy to find out but basically I think we came back where we should be”.
As for Kimi, the icy perfectionist lived up to his cool reputation, perhaps a little frustrated at another podium position below Sebastian Vettel: “You’re never really happy if you don’t win, but I suppose second place is as close as you can get. […] We didn’t have the speed to challenge Sebastian [Vettel] today, but we did have the pace to get both cars on the podium so I’m happy for the team.”
This season has witnessed the Lotus F1 Team go from strength to strength, with this new position for Romain putting the team in the best stead for another great show at the upcoming Barcelona Grand Prix, kicking off on 10th May.
